Innovation With Today's Technology For A Better Tomorrow

A doctor in a remote area calls a charity's headquarters to let them know what supplies are desperately needed. A classroom of students in a rural area has a video conference with members of the local government to talk about civic duty. Students learning Spanish call students in Spain who are learning English. All of these situations may have seemed like a scene out of a science fiction or futuristic movie at one time, but they are becoming increasingly common with today's technology, namely Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP.

VoIP offers additional features and saves money-factors which have lead to its growing popularity. There are benefits available for individual users, families, education, governments, businesses, and industries to name just a few. In fact, anyone or any organization that usually uses a land line telephone or wants to have a video conference may benefit from VoIP.

Nor do both parties have to use VoIP technology for the call to go through. Callers using VoIP may use their telephones and manually dial the phone number they would like to connect to or they may have a headset and use the computer to make the call, depending on the set-up that the callers use. VoIP phones even allow users to make phone calls without being tied to a computer; instead, the phones connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi or Ethernet technology.

Another technology that has seen continued growth is the IP Virtual Private Network (VPN). The VPN can be found in on-site business and in homes as employees are able to log on to the company network securely, even from remote locations, without sacrificing any features. This provides today's workforce with greater flexibility with their schedules. Some businesses also use VPN technology to safeguard private Wi-Fi wireless networks. Besides allowing for remote access to networks, VPN technology also enables businesses to bridge two networks to form an extended intranet.

Virtual Private Networks offer adaptable options that harness the abilities and reach of IP networks to supply scalable connectivity that is both secure and robust to meet the needs of different sized businesses. Virtual Private Networks also enable file sharing, video conferencing, VoIP, and similar network services-the same functionality available without VPN but these services can be implemented more efficiently and inexpensively. One VPN is able to provide the platform for all application traffic while better utilizing the existing bandwidth. This highly scalable infrastructure is a cost-effective networking solution.
